What should I bring to my appointment?

Where can I use medical marijuana in Mississippi?

Qualifying patients may use medical marijuana in their homes and on private property.  Check the local ordinances in your city for more details.

Does Mississippi have purchase and possession limits for medical marijuana?

Yes, Mississippi has possession and purchase limits based on “Mississippi Medical Cannabis Equivalency Units” (MMCEUs). An MMCEU is equivalent to:

  • 3.5 grams of flower
  • up to 100 mg of THC in infused products
  • up to one gram of concentrate

Patients cannot purchase more than six MMECEUs in week and 24 MCEUs in a month. Patients also cannot possess more than 28 MCEUs at one time. 

Can I buy edibles with my medical marijuana card?

Qualifying patients may be eligible to purchase edibles and other forms.  Talk to your provider for options.

Can I take medical marijuana out of state?

While medical marijuana is legal in Mississippi as of February 2, 2022, it is still illegal federally and cannot be taken across state lines.

If your application is incomplete or incorrect, the Mississippi Department of Health will turn it down. The MDOH has 30 days to approve your application after you have made accurate revisions. How much will a Disabled First Responders and Disabled Veterans Registry ID Card cost?
Veterans and first responders with disabilities are exempt from paying the application fee. The Mississippi Medical Cannabis Act (MMCA) stipulates that disabled veterans or disabled first responders are exempt from paying the application cost for a qualifying patient Registry ID Card. A disabled veteran or first responder may prove their disability by submitting written confirmation from their doctor attesting to their incapacitating medical condition, documentation from the Social Security Disability Office, or documentation confirming they are a one hundred percent (100%) disabled veteran as determined by the U.S. Veterans Affairs Department. To lower the cost of the application and renewal fees, the MDOH may accept donations from private sources.
Will medical marijuana be covered by my insurance?
No. A managed care organization, health benefit plan, private insurer, government medical assistance program, employer, property and casualty or workers’ compensation insurer, or self-insured group providing coverage for a medical, pharmacy, or health care service is NOT required by the MMCA to pay for or reimburse any other person or entity for expenses related to the medical use of cannabis.
Can I use medical marijuana or smoke it in public?
No. The MMCA forbids public consumption, which includes smoking medicinal marijuana in a public setting or a motor vehicle. Please take note that “smoking” refers to all forms of medical cannabis inhalation, including vaping.
Can medical marijuana be administered to a cannabis patient at school?
Yes. The same as with medical prescriptions, facilities including schools, daycare centers, and temporary care providers will be permitted to provide medical cannabis to authorized patients.
Can I be fired from my job because I use medical marijuana?
Yes. Simply put, the MMCA does not mandate that any employer permit the use of medicinal cannabis for medical reasons. Furthermore, regardless of whether or not you are impaired as a result of using medical cannabis, no employer is prohibited from refusing to hire, firing, disciplining, or otherwise taking an adverse employment action against you with regard to hiring, firing, tenure, terms, conditions, or privileges as a result of your use of the drug. As opposed to having zero tolerance for any proven positive drug tests, some companies may choose to be tolerant of workers who have Registry ID cards and receive approved medicinal cannabis treatments. Additionally, businesses must be aware of the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). What constitutes a “debilitating medical condition” is defined under the MMCA. Many would be considered a serious health condition under the FMLA or a disability under the ADA. For these reasons, the MCPA highly advises that you discuss their policy on your use of medical cannabis with your employer.
How much medical marijuana may I obtain each week?
To put it simply, the weekly purchase limit is ¾ of an ounce. Remember that this refers to weekly rather than monthly purchases.
My Registry ID card will be accessible to whom?
